The career paths in the USA and Taiwan are different also.
In the USA, we are able to try many different kinds of jobs in our early careers. The company asks us to try more types of work as well. For example, I was an operator, yet able to work as MIS at the same time. However, in Taiwan, HR prefers you to stay in one job longer. Some of the companies even try to limit your career path based on what they need. Therefore, how to choose the right company that you could learn and grow becomes very important at the beginning of your career. At the same time, in Taiwan, you have to change your job and company in order to try different things and to see if that is the career path that you want to. Therefore, you will see some people have a lot of short working periods in many companies in their career path.
That is the reason why in the USA, it is easy to find people who are focusing on one field longer than others. And, in Taiwan, you might see people have all different kinds of field experiments. Of course, in Taiwan, some of the people have a purpose to do that so they could continue learning or reach the career that they like to achieve.
Also, in the USA, we encourage females to do whatever they want to. Yet, in Taiwan, all the females will be encouraged to take more traditional types of jobs like sales, nurses, or accountants. In the USA, we encourage females to be a leader, a manager, a pioneer, and a creator. However, in Taiwan, they seem to just need a quieter and a follower.
While I became a lead, some of the newcomers are so dependent on SOP documents or ask the lead how to do. I have to spend some time training my seniors to be the first line to answer if the juniors have questions. The system is working pretty well. I even create my own time and am able to do other things for the team.
